Creating Your Tree of Life

When you bring your attention to a stone, a tree or an animal,

something of its essence transmits itself to you.

You can sense how still it is and in doing so

the same stillness rises within you.

You can sense how deeply it rests in being,

completely one with what it is and where it is, in realizing this,

you, too, come to a place or rest deep within yourself.”

~ Eckhart Tolle

I love trees; always have. What if we were to look at the metaphor of a tree as our life?

I started thinking about this because to me a tree resembles our heart and everything which emanates from it. I picture the roots as our heart centered intention as connected to the Divine, and all the branches of the tree as the aspects of our lives which enrich us; the love we have for others, the activities we engage in, the way we go about our lives - each can be viewed as a whole tree of life.

By incorporating something we love; just for our own health and wellbeing each day, we can make such a beautiful difference in our lives, which ripples out into our world.

There are many ways to tap into your heart. While on vacation last year, I began pondering the many ways we each contemplate and feel at one in our being. I noticed people running, fishing, fly fishing, painting, and meditating. It’s really anything which brings you into a state of being, where everything else melts away.

I come into my heart center in the most glorious ways when I am in nature. I’ve always loved nature from the time I was a little girl. I’ve found in the last number of years that I’m able to quiet the noise in my mind, gain insights and answers to questions. Through my dog, Amadei, I began to take time on our daily walks to meditate in nature, which is always an amazing experience. This involved finding a quiet place in nature and laying on the ground for 20 minutes. I felt the Earth beneath my body like a nurturing essence I so loved.

I had a couple of ladies who meditated with me in nature say, “At first laying on the ground seemed hard, and as I relaxed I felt like I was held in a warm embrace.”

Meandering in nature gives your body an opportunity to come into rhythm with your heart and this rhythm I believe is what enables new levels of relaxation and a heightened sense of awareness to provide insights, motivation and creative ideas. This present space is enhanced through a foundation of intention and it is this seed of intention which allows your ideas and insights to flourish, like the branches of a tree.

When I’m with others in this natural creative process, I notice people sort of melt into and become one with their environment. They are able to go at their own pace and this works so well with whatever the original intention or question happens to be.

Who benefits from this creative process? Artists who want to delve deeper into their artistic processes, people who are looking for insights into a goal or simply want to live their lives more aligned in a peaceful yet engaged manner, and yes, it can be a way to celebrate and honor your journey in life.
